Submission Guidelines

Intensities: Journal

Submissions should include an abstract, bio, keywords, manuscript and any relevant images. Please consider the following guidelines, and send to Leon Hunt (editor): leon.hunt@brunel.ac.uk.

Submissions for the peer reviewed section of the journal should refer to the current call for papers; however, speculative abstracts (min. 250 words) will also be considered on a case-by-case basis. Submissions will be anonymously peer reviewed by at least two referees specialising in the relevant subject area, whereby the reviewer’s name is withheld from the author and the author’s name is withheld from the reviewer.

  • Document FormattingWord document, Times New Roman font, 1.5 line spacing.
  • Spelling – British English.
  • Abstract and Bio – Sent as a separate attachment to the main manuscript – abstract of c. 250 words, and short biographical note of c. 150 words (plus full name and institution).
  • Keywords – 5-10 keywords to aid with internet searches.
  • Manuscript Word Limit – 6,000 – 8,000 words. Please do not put your name on every page of the article, since it must remain anonymous for the review process.
  • ReferencingHarvard style referencing with authors and dates bracketed in the text and a full bibliography at the end.
  • Endnotes – Please use endnotes sparingly, instead of footnotes.
  • Images – Feel free to send along any relevant images, or include them in the body of the manuscript. However, these images must be credited to the original source, labelled according to their place within the article (see Figure 1, etc), and must include a short description.

Intensive: Cult Media Review

To send a submission, or to informally discuss a piece for the next issue, please contact Erin Pearson (reviews editor): E.Pearson@uea.ac.uk.

Each issue will include a Cult Media Review section that is non-refereed, and will carry a range of articles that are not necessarily tied to the current call for papers.

These may include, but are not limited to: critical essays, book reviews, reviews of cult phenomena (e.g. TV series, films, novels, comics), interview transcripts, conference and convention reports, and feature articles about aspects of industry, fan culture, production and authorship.

As above, the following formatting guidelines apply:

  • Document FormattingWord document, Times New Roman font, 1.5 line spacing.
  • Spelling – British English.
  • Bio – please include a short biographical note of c. 150 words.
  • Feature/Review Word Limit – Considering the variety in potential submissions, a flexible word limit of between 500-3,500 words will apply.
  • ReferencingHarvard style referencing with authors and dates bracketed in the text and a full bibliography at the end.
  • Endnotes – Please use endnotes sparingly, instead of footnotes.
  • Images – Images must be credited to the original source, labelled accordingly (Figure 1, etc), and include a short description.
